What Does an Immigrant Look Like?

Meet Federico GuinartMeet Federico Guinart

A little while ago, I was having a chat with a friend of mine about my law practice. She asked me about the kinds of cases that I handle and the types of people who might be interested in speaking with me. Towards the end of our chat, she says “Great! I’ll be on the look out for clients for you. What does an immigrant look like?”

At the time, I had a good laugh with her and said “If someone needs an immigration lawyer, they usually know.” But her question started me thinking: “what DO my immigrant clients look like?” It is true that I serve a wide variety of people from all walks of life, and from all the different corners of the world. But is there anything about them that would distinguish them from everyone else?

And so, with this blog post, I look to start a conversation about what my immigrant clients look like. I think as we go along, however, we are going to discover a very basic truth: Immigrants look just like you and me.

This week, we meet Federico Guinart. Fede’s immigration status was muddled by mistakes made by his prior attorney. He and his wife came to see me about getting it fixed. And thankfully, we were able to get it resolved and Fede is now a lawful permanent resident.
